The Chinese New Year, also called "spring festival" corresponds to the very first day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
The Spring Festival marks the beginning of the New Year festivities, which last about two weeks and end with the Lantern Festival.
The date of Chinese New Year varies from year to year for Westerners, but always falls between 21 January and 20 February.
It is the most popular and important traditional festival in Chinese culture.
In Chinese astrology the transition to the new lunar year is marked by a new sign represented by an animal, there are 12 of them: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
