The festival of Sant Jordi or Saint George is celebrated on 23rd April each year. During this festival, the streets are filled with books and roses in reference to the legend of Sant Jordi and the dragon. San Jordi is considered the patron of lovers, which is why couples exchange red roses as a sign of love and affection. 23rd April is also International Book Day, so people buy and exchange books that they love or would like to read.
