About the Olympics
The Olympics are a major international sporting event that brings together athletes from around the world to compete in a variety of sports. They take place every four years and are divided into Summer and Winter Games, alternating every two years between the two types of games. The modern Olympics were created by Pierre de Coubertin and the first edition took place in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The Games are symbolised by five interlocking rings, representing the unity of the five inhabited continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania).
