It is characterised by its segmented body, eight legs and its curved tail which ends in a venomous stinger used for defence and capturing prey. Scorpions are primarily nocturnal and can be found in a variety of habitats, from deserts to rainforests. Their sting can be painful and, in some cases, dangerous to humans, although only a few species possess potentially lethal venom.
